I'm a patient, or consumer of pharmacy services.

Dear Representative or Senator,

I am writing to you as a concerned citizen. I've recently learned about the widely unknown practices of American chain pharmacies which can endanger citizens like myself and your other constituents. Did you know that the people responsible for delivering us safe medications, checking for drug interactions, and educating us about how to use medicine are often forced to work 14 hour shifts with NO breaks? I didn't either, and I also didn't know that they are pressured to check my prescriptions AS FAST AS POSSIBLE, or they could lose their jobs. Does that sound like a safe system to you? It certainly doesn't to me.

What I am asking you for is to speak out and support legislation that helps pharmacists and pharmacy technicians take care of the American public the way they were trained to. That means they should have access to meal breaks, mandatory adequate support staff, and protection from predatory work metrics that endanger patient safety. I would also ask that you call out the state Board of Pharmacy for their inaction on this matter, which they are well aware of. You can learn more at

Thank you for your attention, and I'll see you at the polls.

A very concerned citizen

I'm a pharmacist.

Dear Representative or Senator,

I am writing to you as a concerned pharmacist and citizen of your district. My fellow pharmacists and pharmacy technicians are at our breaking point. Chain pharmacy practices are preventing us from taking care of our patients and putting them at risk of dangerous medication errors. Pharmacists are responsible for delivering safe medications to patients, checking for drug interactions, and educating patients about how to use medications. However, we are often forced to work 14 hour shifts with NO breaks and a severely inadequate amount of support staff, all to pad the profit margins of our employers, despite the obvious danger to patients.  Did you know that we are also pressured to check prescriptions AS FAST AS POSSIBLE, or we could lose our jobs? Does that sound like a safe system to you? It certainly doesn't to me or my colleagues.

I'm a pharmacy technician.

Dear Representative or Senator,

I am writing to you as a concerned pharmacy technician and citizen of your district. However, they are often forced to work 14 hour shifts with NO breaks and a severely inadequate amount of support staff, all to pad the profit margins of our employers, despite the obvious danger to patients.  Did you know that they are also pressured to check prescriptions AS FAST AS POSSIBLE, or they could lose their jobs? Does that sound like a safe system to you? It certainly doesn't to me or my colleagues.

My job as a pharmacy technician is to facilitate the provision of patient care. That means I support the pharmacist in almost every task required to run the pharmacy outside of clinical decision-making. However, chain pharmacy practices are making it impossible for me to complete my work duties in a safe way by constantly cutting the time I have to complete them in. For many of my colleagues, this means we have to find a new field of work because we simply can't make a living on a few hours a week. Those of us that remain in the field are left trying to train brand new workers on already impossible staffing allowances, which only further decreases the quality of care our patients receive.

What I am asking you for is to speak out and support legislation that helps pharmacists and pharmacy technicians take care of the American public the way we were trained to. That means they should have access to meal breaks, mandatory adequate support staff, and protection from predatory work metrics that can and do endanger patient safety.
